| Argentinean Language And Culture Programs, characteristic |
ARGENTINEAN LANGUAGE AND CULTURE PROGRAMS
The FASTA University Argentinean Language and Culture Programs are specially designed for students eager to develop their Spanish communications abilities in a total immersion setting that facilitates the experience of the Argentinean Culture distinctive aspects.
Rice University. 2005
All classes are taught in Spanish. The Argentinean Language and Culture Programs core courses have been especially designed for international students. The optional and complementary courses are part of the majors curriculums offered to Argentinean students.
You can choose to live with a family or in an apartment with native students.
To facilitate the social integration each foreign student integrates a TUTORIA with a local student. Besides offering a helping hand in daily activities and tasks, "the tutor" in many cases also becomes a good friend.
We aim to facilitate the learning experience providing a very attentive structure that at the same time help each student participation in the real life of native university students.
We offer both, structured and individualized attention, but the student own enthusiasm does the rest.
In keeping with our philosophy of personalized attention, the Argentinean Language and Culture Programs has a limited enrollment of twenty students per program. To date, participants have come from Mexico, USA, Japan, Finland and Germany.
Bearing in mind the needs and time constraints of undergraduates, programs are based on the semester-long periods. Year-long program can be arrange.
Intensive six-week programs are offered at different times of the year. In these programs the student works exclusively on language and culture and enjoys many typical activities of the Argentinean life.

|
In general all courses are given in two one hundred thirty five-minute sessions per week.
Some of the classes are complemented by additional activities such as movies, excursions, practicums, lab work, and other cultural activities.
Most courses are structured as a professor lecture's, with active group and individual students participation.
The pace of courses specifically designed for international students may be slower than optional courses.
Nevertheless, classes and lectures are given entirely in Spanish. The list of courses in this catalog is not exhaustive; rather it has been assembled to reflect courses that international students have found most attractive.

"Uno de los aspectos que me tiene fascinada es la manera en la que imparten clases, la forma en la que surgen los debates dentro del aula, la cercanía que existe entre el alumno y el maestro y el compañerismo que demuestran cada uno de los estudiantes del salón de clase. Me encantaría poner aunque sea un poco de todo esto en práctica". ARMIDA MILLARAY GAYTÁN GÓMEZ.. Universidad de Colima. 2004.

Student life |
The daily life of the international student is centered on three spheres:
Becoming part of the host family or student group, with whom he or she lives;
Cultivating a social life in Argentina, either through the tutor or independent connections;
Actively participating in university classes.
Life on a university campus in Argentina is quite different from campus life in other countries. In general, the Argentine student goes to classes, and may occasionally have a cup of coffee in the cantina, but for the most part, social life remains off campus.
International students are encouraged to connect with the off-campus world where Argentine students naturally forge new friends. International students will find many opportunities to interact with Argentine people. Students are welcome to take initiative in approaching other students and members of the faculty and staff. Argentine people are very interested in meeting newcomers, and have always made international students feel quite a home.

| |
Orientation
|
In order to familiarize students with their new surroundings and the academic system, a orientation period is scheduled at the beginning of each program.
After meeting the host families and settling down in their new homes, students will take part in a series of activities designed to familiarize them with the university, their classmates and professors, the personal tutor, and the city of Mar del Plata. During the orientation period, students are also given a placement exam to determine their language level.

VISA
|
American citizens do not need a visa to enter Argentina. You will be issued a tourist visa when you arrive in Buenos Aires as you go through immigration. This visa is valid for three months and can be extended for three more.
|
| |
Health
|
The health care system in Argentina provides universal health care for all. However, the cost of medications is not covered. It is highly recommended that each student bring a copy of his or her own medical records and consider obtaining travel health insurance.
|
| |
Housing
|
Students are individually placed in house or apartments with native speakers. They have the choice of living with a family or with a group of Argentine students. These families or student groups are carefully selected by UFASTA.
Placements are made on a one-student-per-household-only basis, making regular contact with native speakers not only possible, but inevitable!
Living with a family or with a group of native students is one of the fundamental objectives of the program.
This makes it possible for the international student to truly interact and bond with Argentines.
It is not the norm in Argentine universities for students to live in dorms or in on-campus housing . (For this reason, the possibility of living on campus is not offered.)
